What if products could be designed automatically based on whatever excess materials were available locally?

RCA research (MA) project on subject of:
Industrial waste & offcuts; circular economy; distributed manufacturing

This project presents variations of a lamp design that has adapted to make use of different offcuts from a local metal workshop. If manufacturers could scan and digitise their material offcuts, object designs could automatically update to utilise locally abundant material, reducing the amount of offcuts that become waste and leading to more sustainable products. Joining parts are 3D printed and sent to the customer with the finished offcuts as a kit.
